All throughout my adolescent years, I have battled this unrelenting force that haunts and terrorizes many, a force that I wish I could only zap into oblivion. Acne, my friends, is that force I am referring to, and it is absolutely no fun at all.
I have never been one to become overwhelmed with acne, yet I am not one to say I have had a perfect complexion either. Far from it actually. After years of trying every pimple product known to the teenage man, I have finally seen better days for my complexion. Not crediting the products I used however, I feel as though my turn for the better, skin wise, is a product of my hormones finally taking a breather and giving my skin a break.
However...
I have been recently interested in experimenting with natural products and remedies to maintain clean and healthy skin. My decision to ditch commercial brand skin products was done on a basis of somewhat fear; fear of the ingredients within those products that I could not pronounce, yet was being plastered, rubbed, and soaked all over my face and body. I have grown to love a natural raw diet, so why not venture the same for my skin care?
Through all the experimentation I have done this summer, I am very lucky to say that I never experienced any allergic reactions to the methods I tried (phew). However, I did gather a handful of my favored methods and products, that worked best for my skin.
These products included:
1. Aveda All-sensitive cleanser
2.Aveda All-sesnitive moisturizer
3. Coconut Oil
4. Avalon organics hand and body lotion
5. Mountain Forest Raw Honey
6. Lemon
7. Featuring: Frank body coffee scrub
The above all worked great for my skin, and gave my skin a glowing smooth texture.
I used this cleanser twice a day, in the morning and at night. It is very light; it didn't foam or anything. It is so refreshing.
The Aveda moisturizer (not pictured) looks exactly the same, and is just as light. I used it only for my face, each time I cleansed my skin. It did caused me a little irritation on my cheeks, but after switching to using it once a day every other day, it worked much better.
I had always heard great things about coconut oil, and how it could be used as a natural skin moisturizer and hair conditioner. I got this unrefined coconut oil for hair and skin at my local whole foods; and I used it as a body lotion almost everyday after I showered. It has this oily texture, which I really liked; it felt like it was deeply moisturizing my skin. It also reminds me of the beach because of smell.
I found this Avalon Organic hand and body lotion at whole foods on sale. I liked that it was organic, and so I thought why not. It smells really nice, and worlds well for moisturizing my body when I was fresh out of the shower, or right before bed.
Ok so honey is my secret weapon. I don't know why it took me so long to find out that my miracle pimple fighter was a household kitchen item. Raw honey my friends, works sooo well. I drink a spoonful of it every day, in the morning preferably, in a glass of warm water and lemon. Miracle worker is a all I can say. It is also my go to item when I have a zit coming on.. dab a little before bed on the problem area, and it works so well to help vanish that bugger!
Lemon is another natural miracle worker for the skin: I use it in my honey water, and also usually drink a glass of lemon water when I first wake up before eating breakfast.
Which brings me to Frank...now I know that this body scrub seems to be all over insatgram. So, of course, curiosity got the best of me and I just had to try it out. I am glad to say that it is not just hype. I really like this product. It makes my skin feel like a baby's bum (literally), and I feel so refreshed after a scrub. It has visibly helped diminish some of my stretch marks on my legs, and some scars I have here and there. Definitely recommend!
An additional product I would like to mention is the Aveeno baby moisturizer. I have used it forever, and I love it. I carry it around in my purse.. its heavenly on my skin! Plus, its formulated for babies, so it is very light and far from harsh. It also smells good;D
I also want to mention this solar recovery product I also found at whole foods. Since it is summer, I wanted to find something that could repair my skin when I was all day in the sun. This product was super light, yet soothing. It always took care of my crisp tanned skin;).
I hoped this post could help you if your interested in turning to more natural products for skin care. Now I know what works for me may not work for everybody; we all have different skin types, and we all react to products differently. This could be a good starting point, but overall I definitely recommend giving natural products and remedies a try with regards to skin care!
And with that, I sign off --XO Adri
